Drew Estate Tabak Especial Negra

There are cigars you enjoy… and then there are cigars tied to memories. The kind you reach for when family is around, dinner is over, the evening air settles in, and conversation slows into something meaningful. That’s exactly what the Drew Estate

Tabak Especial Negra has become for me and my son-in-law, Ryan McConnaughey.

Over the years, Ryan and I have shared many good evenings with this cigar in hand. Sometimes after a great meal, sometimes around the fire pit, and sometimes for no reason at all other than good company and a little extra time together.

Cigars have a way of slowing life down, and this one has become part of our tradition.

The Drew Estate Tabak Especial is a premium coffee-infused cigar handcrafted in Nicaragua using rich Nicaraguan tobaccos and estate-grown coffee. The Negra version wraps everything in a dark, oily Maduro leaf that delivers deeper espresso, mocha, and dark chocolate notes with a smooth creamy finish. The sweetened cap pulls it all together without ever becoming overpowering.

And yes… there are still cigar purists out there who look down on infused cigars. I completely disagree. Too many people confuse a premium infused cigar with gas station machine-made smokes. That’s a mistake. The Tabak Especial Negra is a handcrafted premium cigar with real complexity, quality construction, and flavor balance. It belongs in a serious humidor.

What separates Drew Estate from everyone else is their infusion process. Nobody has duplicated what they do. Their attention to detail, tobacco selection, and quality control remain some of the best in the industry. Founded by Jonathan Drew, Drew Estate built its reputation on creative blends that challenged traditional cigar culture while still respecting craftsmanship.

The smoke production on the Negra is outstanding. Thick, creamy clouds pour off the foot from the first draw, and the rough foot design makes lighting effortless. Construction has always been consistent for me — even burn lines, easy draw, and no unraveling wrappers. That reliability matters when you’re sitting down for a relaxing evening smoke.

Oregon Man Findings

  • Aroma & Room Note: Sweet, rich, and welcoming. Even my wife "Mrs. Oregon Man" enjoys the aroma lingering in the air.

  • Flavor Profile: Espresso, cocoa, caramel, dark chocolate, and cream with a smooth Maduro backbone.

  • Construction: Excellent burn consistency and effortless draw.

  • Versatility: Perfect after dinner, with morning coffee, or during a slow evening on the patio.

  • Best Drink Pairing: Strong coffee, espresso, Eagle Rare 10 year bourbon

Best Music Recommendations:

The Drew Estate Tabak Especial Negra calls for music with warmth, depth, and a little soul — something smooth enough to match the creamy espresso notes but relaxed enough to let conversation breathe. This isn’t cigar you have to try and pick up tates like "earth" and all the crap - It’s an evening cigar. A slow-pour bourbon cigar. A “stay on the patio another hour” cigar.

Jazz & Late-Night Lounge

  • Chet Baker — soft trumpet, smoky vocals, perfect after-dinner mood

  • Miles Davis — especially Kind of Blue for slow contemplative smoking

  • Diana Krall — smooth piano and vocals pair beautifully with coffee notes

Blues & Whiskey Chair Music Artists

  • B.B. King — The Thrill Is Gone ("Brother in Law John will love this version"- rich, emotional

  • Chris Stapleton — Tennessee Whiskey — honestly feels built for this cigar
