Andrea Motis – The Velvet Voice of Barcelona

Every now and then you stumble across an artist who stops you in your tracks. For me, that artist is Andrea Motis.

Born in Barcelona, Spain, Andrea Motis is an extraordinary jazz vocalist, trumpeter, saxophonist, and songwriter whose music effortlessly blends jazz and bossa nova. Although she began performing as a teenager with the renowned Joan Chamorro Quintet and the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, her poise and musical maturity have always seemed far beyond her years. Under the mentorship of bassist and educator Joan Chamorro, she developed into one of Europe's most captivating young jazz artists.

The performance that first captured my attention was "Meditação", Antonio Carlos Jobim's timeless bossa nova masterpiece. Recorded live at Barcelona's legendary Jamboree Jazz Club in 2013, Andrea is joined by the Joan Chamorro Quintet and the incomparable tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton. The chemistry between these musicians is remarkable, producing a performance that feels intimate, elegant, and completely effortless. The recording became one of the standout moments from the acclaimed Live at Jamboree – Barcelona album and has introduced millions of listeners to Andrea's remarkable talent.

What makes Andrea Motis so captivating isn't flashy technique or showmanship, it's her talent that extends from jazz vocalist, trumpeter, saxophonist, and songwriter.
